GEF Launches New GEF EdVentures After-School Academic Enrichment Program

To coincide with the start of a new school year, the Goochland Education Foundation launched a brand new after-school program designed to enrich and maximize the learning potential of Goochland County Public School elementary students K-5.

GEF held simultaneous launch events on August 19, 2025 at Goochland County’s three elementary schools (Byrd, Goochland, and Randolph) as parents were picking up their children at the end of the program day. Parents had the opportunity to meet program staff and tour the facilities. Representatives from the school system, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors, as well as other donors were on hand to celebrate the introduction of the GEF EdVentures after-school academic enrichment program.

The program, partially funded by Goochland County, will focus on providing academic support while also encouraging students to explore enrichment and recreational activities designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.

Board of Supervisors Chair Tom Winfree expressed enthusiasm for the partnership: “The Goochland County Board of Supervisors is proud to have been able to support opportunities for our community’s students.”

“We are thankful for our partnership with the Goochland Education Foundation,” said Dr. Raley, County Administrator. “It is wonderful to see our community come together to support our students.”

GEF Chief Executive Officer Cyndy Brown,  explained the foundation’s vision for the program: “Our vision for this program is to provide opportunities for students to grow, learn, create, and discover talents they might not even know they have. Whether they’re working on their reading or math skills, learning about science, or creating something new, we believe that every moment here is an investment in their bright future.”

The GEF EdVentures program operates Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 6 p.m. during the school year, providing a safe, structured environment where students can receive homework assistance, participate in educational activities, and engage in supervised recreational time.

Goochland Education Foundation has received enthusiastic support from community partners including Luck Companies Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Martin, CarMax Foundation, TowneBank, Chick-fil-A, and an anonymous donor.

The GEF EdVentures program is actively seeking volunteers to work with students after school. Community members interested in making a difference in the lives of local students are encouraged to visit https://goochlandedu.org/gef-edventures/ and complete the volunteer interest form.
